Translation & Commentary Process
Every English rendition on this site is my own translation. I cross-check Qing block prints, modern collations, and Taiwanese annotated editions before producing a draft. Footnotes explain rhetorical devices, historical references, and vernacular idioms so readers can move between languages without losing nuance.
Beyond translation, I provide chapter summaries, moral analysis, and production notes describing how each illustration or motion experiment was created.
Research Interests
- Zhiguai literature as social critique—especially depictions of gender, bureaucracy, and justice.
- Folklore transmission between Liaozhai stories and regional temple rituals.
- Techniques for rendering classical Chinese wordplay into contemporary English prose.
