Specters of Chinese Lore is an independent storytelling project curated by Zhang Lianhua. We publish bilingual adaptations of classical Chinese ghost stories and related cultural essays.

2. Information We Collect
- Newsletter Sign-ups: When you submit your email, we store it securely to send release announcements. No additional profile data is requested.
- Server Logs: Our hosting provider automatically records standard web logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps) for security and reliability. These logs are retained briefly and purged.
- Advertising Data: Google AdSense may set cookies or collect usage metrics necessary for delivering contextual and interest-based ads. See Section 4 for details.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Deliver newsletter updates you requested.
- Protect the site against spam and abuse.
- Measure readership interest across our stories to improve future content.
4. Cookies & Third-Party Services
We rely on Google AdSense to display advertisements. AdSense and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can learn more and customize preferences via Google’s Advertising Policies.
When our self-hosted subscription API is unavailable, the email form routes through FormSubmit, a third-party relay service based in the United States. FormSubmit processes your address solely to forward it to us and then purges it according to their retention policy.
You may disable non-essential cookies through your browser settings. Doing so will not limit your ability to read our stories.
5. Data Sharing
We never sell personal information. We share data only when required by law, to enforce our Terms of Use, or to protect our rights and readers’ safety.
6. Data Retention & Security
Subscriber emails are stored in an encrypted database with limited access. We remove addresses upon request or when newsletters cease. Server logs are automatically deleted within 30 days unless needed for investigations.
7. Your Rights
- Request a copy of data we hold about you.
- Ask us to update or delete your information.
- Unsubscribe at any time via links in our emails or by contacting us directly.
8. Changes to This Policy
We update this document to reflect new regulations or features. Major changes will be announced on the site footer and via newsletter.
